Probably in April some time we saw a huge puddle near the creek close to our house with frog egg sacks. There were 100's. The boys were amazed.
We continued to check on them and decided to capture two tadpoles. We got them about a month ago when the were large tadpoles and could already see there little black eyes. The boys were elated and began the journey of growing tadpoles.
We all took great care or them and interest in all they were doing. Owen got to be special and bring them once a week to school for his class to observe all the changes.
After about a month all four legs grew and they started to climb on the rocks in their "tank" so we knew it was time to release them back to their puddle. We had continued to check on their siblings and all around the same stage.
Owen and I walked them back down to their home and he scooped them gently in his hand and allowed them to slide back into the puddle. "Chomper" actually stayed on Owen's hand for a minute or so and Owen swears the froglet kissed him. He was so excited. He then hopped in the water and then climbed back on the dirt edge. We got to talk to him and say goodbye. He then hopped in the water.
It was such a special moment for Owen, a great learning experience for Aiden and Owen and to be honest we all miss out little froglets. But we check on them every couple of days.
Another cool part as when we scooped up some rocks from the creek, we had captured three snails and a clam. The snails got much larger over the month and were cool to watch move along the top of the water. The clam was a huge hit. Near the end we actually got to see it slither out of its shell a little to move around on the rocky bottom and Owen noticed its mouth so we got to get a picture. Very cool!
So cool! What a great experience for the boys.
