Welcome Beardy

Not new news that Owen has always been enamored with reptiles and amphibians. Well about 2 years ago Owen asked if he could get a breaded dragon, his favorite lizard. I told him that he was too young and maybe he could when he is 6. Well a couple months ago, he comes to tell me how he is turning 6 in July and he can finally get his lizard. I was surprised he remembered but also not, he has always wanted one.

So the morning after we returned from Turkey he could not wait one more minute. We had already bought the cage set-up and all the decoration and he set it up before we left for vacation. He was so excited to carry him home and put him in his new forever home. He named him Beardy and spent the majority of the day with him. He is really good about holding him and petting him gently.

It has been a week and he has been awesome about taking care of him. He likes to help get the crickets to feed him and help clean the tank, great about changing over his lights and of course he is the best about making sure he gets socialized, an important factor in raising a breaded dragon. I am proud of him also for always asking and reminding me of things and teaching his friends the rules about his lizard.

We also have eaten breakfast with Bready almost every day. And right now he is sleeping in a "sleeping bag" so he could be even closer to his new pet.

He calls himself Bready's daddy and I am grandma. Love it!

Bready the Breaded Dragon

One of his favorite spots is one the wood Owen chose

Owen watching his new pet

He is quite a cutie

We love how he cocks his head like a dog

Owen & Bready

Owen drew him a picture

We let him run around the room a couple times a day and he went right for the Bionicle...a true Aru boy

Owen is in LOVE

Bready seriously stopped and stared at the large lizard on the wall

Owen was proud he walked around on his picture he drew

We got to watch him shed his skin.
